Barbara Crouch Copeland Byrd entered into rest July 18, 2022. She was born November 17, 1934 to Walter Lee Crouch and Nadean Evelyn Nelson in Shreveport, Louisiana.

She married Joe E. Copeland, Sr. on June 6, 1953 and had five children. She retired from Willis-Knighton after many years. She and Joe owned and operated Joe’s “Papa Joe’s” General Store in Stonewall, Louisiana for over 12 years.

After Joe passed away, she remarried local sports writer, Jerry Byrd and loved supporting him with attending local sporting events and various speak engagements.

She enjoyed sewing, painting, cooking, gardening, knitting and reading. She was also an accomplished writer. She wrote and published a book about her life entitled, “Wrapped In His Arms.” Her favorite book was “The Glass Castle.” Most recently, she could not stop talking about “Where the Crawdads Sing.” Her favorite movie was “Out of Africa.”

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Joe E. Copeland, Sr. and Jerry Byrd; two sisters; three brothers; sons, Joe “Eddie” Copeland, Jr.; Arthur W. Copeland; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are sons, Michael G. Copeland and wife, Eileen of Shreveport, David T. Copeland, Sr. and wife, Donna of Keatchie, Amy Copeland Simmons of Shreveport; grandchildren, Christina Copeland (Adam), David “T.J.” Copeland, Jr. (Brittney), Lauren Findley (Stephen), Brian Copeland (Lauryn), Chelsea Patterson (Charles), Sam Copeland (Maddie), Regina “Gini” Rothenberger (Charles), Emily Bailey (Jason), Katelyn “Katy” Bailey (Chase) and 17 great-grandchildren.

The immediate family will gather for a private graveside service.
