BATON ROUGE, LA - Funeral services for Avis Christine Hailey Sandifer, 88, will be held 12 noon Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel, 2500 Southside Drive. Interment will follow in Forest Park East Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue. Officiating will be Reverend Joe R. Thibeau. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Avis was born on May 23, 1926 in Center, TX and passed away on October 23, 2014. She was briefly a resident of Baton Rouge, LA. She was a homemaker, a native of Shreveport and a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by parents, Jesse Hailey and Learlene Dry Valentine; husband of 25 years, James L. Akin; 3 sisters, Ola Murray, Bessie Lewis, and Eva Schultz; great-grandson, Derek Thibeau. Left to cherish her memory is husband, E.A. Sandifer; number one son, Joe Thibeau and wife Elizabeth; daughters, Donna Thibeau and Barbara Douglas, and husband Keith; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren.
