Audrey Jordan Payton, 82, of Haughton, La, entered the gates of heaven and into Jesus’ arms on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at home surrounded by her loved ones.
As the youngest of eleven, Audrey was born on October 27, 1943 in Downsville, La, to the late Cotman and Della Jordan.
She married the love of her life at the young age of 16 and spent 46 beautiful years with him during which they welcomed the apple of their eye, Laura Scroggs, and their pride and joy, Patrick Payton.
Growing up, the aroma of Mamaw’s cooking had the family gathering around the table and you could always guarantee that cornbread would be included with every meal. Audrey loved to shop, especially loved jewelry, and her presence could light up a room. Her ability to make people laugh was like none other. She had a laughter that was contagious and was always the life of the party. She loved to travel which started early as her and her siblings would frequent Branson often, one of the many places she had visited, but her favorite. She loved to bowl and was on a bowling league for many years taking pride in a finger award that was given to her due to a broken finger that she loved to show off. Her greatest passion, however, was her family and she never let a day go by without telling them how special they were.
In addition to her parent’s death, Audrey is proceeded in death by her soulmate Travis L. Payton. She was also proceeded in death by her siblings C.L. Jordan, Edna Pouncey, J.W. Jordan, Arthur Jordan, Dorothy Howard, Ira Lee Jordan, Vera Jordan, Stanley Jordan, Sylvia Myers, and Brenda Wheat. Her grandson in love Jared C. Maus and her son-n-law Michael Scroggs.
Left to continue her legacy are her daughter Laura Scroggs, son Patrick (Shondee) Payton. Grandchildren Brandon (Jamie) Forgey, Amber (Cody) James, Allison (Jake) Landry, Brooke (John) Tomb. Great grandchildren Helen Forgey, Landon Forgey, Trystan Maus, Aynslea Maus, Layton Rasberry, Benjamin Tomb, Palmer Tomb, Bryar James, Marshall Tomb and a special friend Bonnie Tennyson.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday May 26, 2026 at 11:00 at Gardens of Memory in Minden, La. with Brother Randy Hales officiating. Pallbearers will be all her special guys, her grandsons, Brandon Forgey, Landon Forgey, Trystan Maus, Layton Rasberry, Jake Landry, Cody James, John Tomb and Jason Rasberry.
