Ashton Phillip Wilks

A graveside service for Ashton Phillip Wilks will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at Memorial Cemetery in College Station, Texas. A visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St., Shreveport, Louisiana on Monday, February 22, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Ashton also known as Daddy Ashton, was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior Thursday, February 18, 2021. He was the last surviving and youngest child of eleven born to Albert Monroe and Agnes Richard Wilks of Alexandria, LA on April 13, 1928 in the family home on Lee Street. He attended Holy Savior Menard High School where he was a member of the boxing team and loved to swing dance even continuing to do so after joining the Navy in 1945, while stationed in Hawaii. After his Navy service, he was employed by Goodyear Tire in Alexandria, working his way up to District Field Representative. He married his wife of 69 years, Juanita, on July 3, 1948. When the family moved to Shreveport, Ashton became a businessman and successful entrepreneur. Partnering with Thoman 707 and afterwards opening Ashton\'s Furniture Warehouse and Ashton Wilks Boats on E 70th Street for many years. After raising three sons in Shreveport, opportunity led them to College Station, Texas where they were co-owners of Ashley Furniture Home Stores. Ashton served as a deacon at Calvary Baptist in Shreveport and enjoyed fellowship at Life Tabernacle & Christian Center Church. A memory he cherished as a young man was when he accepted the altar call to receive Jesus into his heart and found to his surprise his proud father was there to witness his salvation. Ashton was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Kelly Wilks; brothers-in-law, Ray Norman Kelly and Kenneth Roark; and sister-in-law, Georgia Roark. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Rusty and Patty Wilks of Tyler, TX, Brian and Becky Wilks of Shreveport, LA and Mark and Cheryll Wilks of College Station, TX; five grandchildren, Colby Wilks, Jessica Culbertson, Lance Wilks, Jade Tridico and Kage Wilks; eight great-grandchildren, Malachi, Zach, Abby Culbertson, Ashton, Anna Grace Wilks, Kolby Wilks, Mattie and Killey Tridico; sister-in-law, Ferol Kelly; and many nieces and nephews. Ashton loved gospel and blues and had a beautiful singing voice. He worked hard many years past retirement age and provided for his family all his life. He would tell you he was most proud of "my pretty red-headed wife and my three sons". He loved the worship music of Jimmy Swaggert and made sure to tell his grandchildren and great-grandchildren he was praying for us every night. The grandchildren will remember the many family Christmases and summers grilling and swimming at their house on Japonica Lane. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Christus Hospice of Shreveport staff, especially Denise, Tabi, Shannon and Valerie for their excellent care and compassion.
