Visitation for Anita L. Harkness will be Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 1:00 pm with funeral services beginning at 2:00 pm at Rose Neath Funeral Home in Minden, Louisiana with Bro. Ronney Joe Webb and Bro. Thomas Patton officiating. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden, Louisiana with Bro. Tomas W. Patton officiating.
Anita was born February 6, 1937, in Minden, Louisiana and went to her heavenly home on April 28, 2026, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Anita graduated from Minden High School in 1955 and Northwestern State College in 1958 with a master’s degree in mathematics. Upon graduation she held teaching positions at Fair Park High School in Shreveport, 1958-1962, in California, 1962-1965, and in Bishop Stratford, England from 1966-1967. She moved back to Shreveport in 1968 and taught mathematics at LSU-S until she retired in 1995.
She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Shreveport did sign language for the services for many years. She had a good life and was blessed with many friends. She loved and prayed for her brother, her sister-in-law who was a comfort and all her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Lois M. Harkness.
She is survived by her brother, Guy Douglas Harkness (Lou), nieces, Melissa H. Robillard (Marc), Alisa H. Mason (Mike), and Amy Harkness, great nieces and nephews, Hannah R. Miles (Ricky), Will Mason (Emily), Dylan Cooper, Abby M. Lane (Harlan), and Nick Robillard (Lauren), and great great-nieces Avery Mason, Reese Robillard, Audrey Miles, Lilah Mae Lane and soon to be, Baby Mason.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Columns of Germantown where she has lived for the last two years and has made many friends, and to the staff of Christus Highland 3-Main and Christus Hospice for the excellent care given to Anita.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of donor’s choice.
