Alvin M. (Dick) Shuford passed from this life to the presence of God on March 20, 2021. He was born on March 1, 1945 in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana to Roy Jefferson and Alma Louise Shuford. His childhood was shaped by the great people of this community who loved him and gave him outlets for his beautiful mind and creative hands. His forever love, Jacqueline Dykes Shuford, committed to a life of great adventures on February 3, 1968. Together they raised three grateful daughters, traveled miles around the world making memories, and enjoyed the blessings of wonderful friends. Those who have shared a cup of coffee on the porch have heard most of the stories a few times. Dick's favorite pleasures were being with his amazing wife and family, talking to his incredible friends, and solving a problem. Thank you for all who allowed him these pleasures throughout his life. He was a fierce believer in God, freedom, hard-work, and integrity.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Alma Louise Shuford, his grandparents, Louis and Mamie Mary, cousin James (Buster) Mary, and his in-laws Jack and Lurline Dykes. He is survived by his beautiful, strong wife of 53 years, Jacque. In his words, "Ain't she a wonderful, fine woman!" He is also survived by his daughters and their husbands, Amanda and Joey Mayeaux of Breaux Bridge, Paula and Doyle Callender of Pleasant Hill, and Mary Stoker of Pleasant Hill. Also mourning are his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Mayeaux Hammond (Cody) of Billings, Montana, Jacqueline Mayeaux of Cardiff, Wales, Katherine and Alllison Callender, Rayden and Raven Farmer, and Zeph Stoker. Our family is thankful to the wonderful medical ministry of Dr. Wyche Coleman, Jr. and Dr. Sean Troxclair. Your dedication to our sweet husband and father has been above and beyond the call of service. We love and thank you. We are also thankful to the nurses and medical staff at Christus Coushatta and Christus Highland Hospitals. Dick was known for his sayings, he leaves this life and to hear Jesus say, "Not bad for a country boy."
