Alvin Lamar Methvin

Alvin Lamar Methvin, 76, passed away on November 21, 2025. Born on February 5, 1949, in Coushatta, Louisiana, Lamar was raised and spent his life in Shreveport, where he built a legacy of devotion of family, faith, hard work and the traveling on the open road.

Lamar graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1967 and went on to work for nearly four decades at the family-owned Ace Hardware before continuing this career with Home Depot for more than 20 years. Known by his steady presence, conversations, and willingness to lend a hand, Lamar made lifelong friends everywhere he worked.

He married Pamela Plante, who also worked at Ace Hardware, with whom he shared more than 30 years of marriage and three beloved children. In 2013 Lamar reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Brenda Morgan, and the two shared a renewed companionship marked by comfort, joy, and deep affection until he took his last breath.

A faithful member of Summer Grove Baptist Church for over 50 years, Lamar served faithfully as a deacon and found great joy singing in the church choir. His love of music, fellowship and service touched many in the congregation.

Outside of work and church, Lamar embraced life with a full heart. He loved riding his Honda Goldwing across the country, cheering for the LSU Tigers, enjoying good BBQ, and spending treasured time with his children and grandchildren. If he could choose any place to be, it would always be on the open road riding his motorcycle, The Blue Angel, exploring somewhere new in the United States.

Lamar was the son of Wilton “Alvin” Methvin and Wanda Crumpton Methvin and the brother of Janice Marie Methvin, all of whom preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his grandson, Jace Philip Troha, along with many beloved extended family members and friends.

He is deeply missed by his family: Eva Methvin Troha, her husband Jeff, and their children Avery Troha and husband Tristian Fonseca Troha, Kendall Troha and Anna Claire Troha; Robert Darwayne Methvin and his children Brayden Methvin, Landry Methvin, Bruce Methvin and Jolene Methvin; Leah Methvin Mallow, her husband Kirk, and their children Brenden Methvin, Ashley Mallow and Raylee Mallow.
