Alton Earl Horn was born June 1, 1942, in Logansport, Louisiana, and went to be with the Lord on November 16, 2024. Alton was a veteran of the United States Navy, a retiree of AT&T and a member of Summer Grove Baptist Church for many years. After retirement, he was known as the “ice cream man,” and was very kind and watchful for the safety of the children who came to buy treats from his ice cream truck.
Alton is preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Sholar Horn; parents, Garland and Willie Stone Horn; sister, Brenda Aldridge; brother, Roger Horn; and nephew, Clay Southwell; sister-in-law, Jamie Horn; brothers-in-law, Virgil Mitchell, and James Elkins.
Left to cherish his memory is his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Ashlee Horn; sisters, Doris Horn Southwell Mitchell and Gartha Horn Elkins; nieces, Deborah Ebarb, Kristin Poe, Marilyn Armstrong, and Sarah Clark; nephews, Steve and Rodney Horn, Mark Elkins, John Luttrell, Reed Aldridge; and brother-in-law, John Aldridge.
The family would like to express special thanks to LuLu Holloway for the wonderful care she gave Alton so he could stay at home as long as he could, for the employees of the Bradford, and for Lifepath Hospice.
Graveside services will be held at Sholar Cemetery in Joaquin, Texas at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024.
