Alice Elizabeth Whittington Greene departed from her earthly life peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on December 2, 2017. Alice was deeply loved by her family and friends whom she cherished throughout her entire life. Visitation will be at Rose-Neath Southside on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with services held at Kings Highway Christian Church Wednesday, December 6, 2017 10 a.m. with Dr. David Brice officiating. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park. Alice was born on July 24, 1923 to Alonzo Whittington and Beatrice O'Neal Whittington in Shreveport, LA. She lived her entire life in Shreveport. She attended and was a graduate of Fair Park High School. Alice worked for various attorneys and title companies. She married her beloved husband Dallas W. Greene, Jr. on October 4, 1947 and had their daughter whom she loved dearly Valerie Greene Rockett. Alice served faithfully as "First Lady" of the Shreveport Fire Department during her husband's tenure as Chief of the Shreveport Fire Department. Alice enjoyed reading, handicapping the races at Louisiana Downs, bridge with her friends, bingo at Montclair, her music, and travelling with family to Vail, Colorado and the mountains of Tennessee. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Chief Dallas W. Greene, Jr., and her daughter Valerie Greene Rockett. Also preceding her in death were her sisters Mildred House and Lois McGatlin and her brother Arthur Whittington. She is survived by her grandchildren, David "Rocky" Rockett and his wife Ashley, Stacy Rockett Ross and her husband Larry, and Valerie Rockett Jones and her husband Adam; her great-grandchildren, Kelly Anna Ross, Cameron Ronald Ross, Zachary Dallas Ross, Caroline Elizabeth Rockett, David Wayne Rockett, Ashton Marianne Farr, Andrew James Rockett, and Madison Olivia Jones; her sister, Pearl Fay Eaton; several nieces and nephews whom loved and cared for her dearly; her son-in-law, David Rockett, Sr. and wife Kathy; and her family of the Shreveport Fire Department. Honoring Alice as pallbearers will be Larry Ross, Adam Jones, Justin Greene Michael Greene, Cameron Ross, and David Rockett. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Shreveport Fire Department. The family would very much like to thank her caregivers at Montclaire Assisted Living and the Chateaus especially Reba Thomas and all those who loved her. We also deeply appreciate the care given to us from Margaret Shehee and the entire Rose-Neath and Kilpatrick family. The family suggest in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Valerie Greene Rockett CYF Fund at Kings Highway Christian Church, 806 Kings Hwy, Shreveport LA 71104.
