Al was born on August 13, 1936, to Alfred Edward Flowers, Sr., and Ada Ruth Kent Flowers in Shreveport, Louisiana. After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, he went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 7, 2025, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Al, a devoted husband, father, and lifelong servant of the Lord, was a cherished member of both Westlake Baptist Church in Shreveport and First Baptist Church in Mandeville. Al’s life was a testament to joyful worship and unwavering belief. He also served in the U.S. Army.

From his teenage years, Al led music at his family’s church, and his voice remained a constant presence in choirs throughout his life. Al’s love for music was inseparable from his love for God. Everyone who met Al walked away knowing two things: his faith in the Lord and his love of music.

Al was known for his gift of gab, his auctioneer’s flair, and his homemade ice cream. He always wore his cowboy hat and carried a spirit of generosity that made everyone feel welcome.

Al leaned on his faith, family, and the fellowship of his church communities when times were hard. His positive attitude and enduring trust in God were guiding lights to those around him.

Al was married to his loving wife, Sandra Ann Waterman Flowers, for 55 beautiful years. Together they built a home filled with laughter, music, and devotion. He adored their children and held them close to his heart.

Al’s legacy lives on in every hymn sung, every story told, and every spoonful of ice cream served in his honor.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Edward Flowers, Sr., and Ada Ruth Kent Flowers; brother, Donald Ray Flowers, and daughter, Melinda Ann Stafford Flowers. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Ann Waterman Flowers. He is also survived by his children, Stephen E. Flowers (wife Debra), Lisa L. Flowers, Cynthia (Cindy) L. Flowers, Christena (Christy) R. Flowers Hay (husband Jim), and Steven A. Flowers. His grandchildren include Brandon, Amanda, Lauren, Trevor, Christopher, Nicholas, Kaleb, Grace, Dylan, Dakota, Cassidy, Britney, and Alejandro. His great-grandchildren, Hayley, Grayson, Boston, Aizlynn, Levi, Savannah, Parrish, Emory, Landry, Wesson; seven additional great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brothers, Carl Flowers, Aaron Flowers, and Ronald Flowers.

Honoring Al as pallbearers will be Jim Hay, Steven Flowers, Dakota Nugent, Christopher Roy, Dylan Sherman, Nicholas Nugent, and James Clayton. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Flowers and Alejandro Latorre.
