Albert Thomas “Mike” Clingan, 96, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed into eternal rest on September 13, 2025. Mike lived a long life rich in love, faith, family and service to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and the community.

Mike is survived by his children, his two daughters, Debbie Frey and husband, Doug, and Denise Griffin; his precious grandchildren, Katy McCown and husband, Luke, Kristy Payne and husband, Keith, Kathleen Frey DeRousse and husband, David, and Michael Frey and wife, Hanna; and 20 great- grandchildren. Mike dearly loved his family and was very devoted to Katy, Kristy, Kathleen and Michael, and their families, who called him "Poppa." He is also survived by his sister, Cynthia Moss and nephew, Robert Hoffman.

Mike is preceded in death by the love of his life, Robbie Rentz Clingan, who he married August 4, 1950 and who he was faithful to until her death on August 28, 2021, shortly after their 71st anniversary and his mother, Rose Lee Honell Clingan, his father, Floyd Olin Clingan, and his sister, Fannie Mae Hoffman and his son-in-law, Robert M. “Bob” Griffin.

Albert Thomas Clingan was born in Allene, Arkansas on January 2, 1929. His father gave him the nickname “Mike”. They moved to Shreveport around 1940 where he attended Fair Park High School and graduated on May 29, 1946. After high school, he studied at East Texas Baptist University.

Mike enlisted in the Army National Guard 1948, served as a Radio Operator and Squad Leader. He was Honorably Discharged from the Army Reserves in 1956, at the rank of Sergeant First Class.

Mike was always a hard worker. His work career included driving a dump truck for his dad’s dirt business, route driver for White’s Cleaners, he worked in furniture sales at several retailers and was Manager of Dunn’s Furniture in Shreveport before starting to work for the Caddo Parish Tax Assessor Office in 1977. Mike served as Deputy Assessor of Caddo Parish, Division Head: Personal Property and Oil and Gas Sections before he was elected Caddo Parish Assessor, in 1986 and retired in December 2000. Mike was a member of the International Association of Assessing Officers and was appointed to the Legal Forms Committee of Louisiana Assessors Association in 1985. He served as President of the West Shreveport Rotary Club; he also served with the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission and the United Way.

Mike was baptized at Emmanuel Baptist Church, in Shreveport, in 1941. He served Emmanuel in many capacities over the years including Deacon, Deacon Chairman, Chairman of the Personnel Committee, Finance Committee, Sunday School Director and as Adult Sunday School Teacher.

A celebration honoring the life of Mike Clingan will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 19, 2025 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA. A visitation will be held prior to the service at 10:00 AM, at the funeral home. Reverend Keith Payne will officiate. A private interment will follow.

Pallbearers will be Michael Frey, Mike Asher, Harry Fletcher, Glen Hall, Robert Hoffman and DeWayne Kelley. Herman Palmer and Harvey Ramsey will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Clingan's family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 5850 Buncombe Rd, Shreveport, LA 71129 or a charity of your choice.
